Ah . . . life.

Well, it’s been a crazy week or so since the last post. I’ve lost track of time to great extent, and in general feel a bit frazzled.

My dentist appointment went well. The filled two cavities, including a gum-line cavity towards the front which had been keeping me from smiling to big for quite a while now. That made me happy. I’m going back in today for another cavity that may be a filling, may be a root canal or crown, or both. That one makes me a happy camper, I’ll tell you what. I’ll be glad to have it fixed, though.

Chick and Duck has been proceeding apace. My father has decided to step down as General Manager, due to his failing health, and has asked me to step up. I’m a little anxious about it, but I have agreed. Fortunately, my uncle, who ran a very successful manufacturing company for 40 years, is helping to manage the business and make sure that everything is in order, so I’ll be working with him until he feels that I’m up to snuff. This doesn’t eliminate or preclude my acting career, it just means that my day job is going to be a little more involved.

Charity has officially resigned as Manager of Mental Health Services at Hazelden out here. She’ll be staying on as a clinician and therapist, part time, but she won’t be doing the management stuff anymore. She didn’t enjoy the politics and stresses of the job, and really wanted to work less. She’s also getting ready to do some private practice stuff, which means that within a short period of time the pay cut shouldn’t really be an issue. It adds a little bit of stress to our already stressful life, but it removes other stressors, so it probably balances out.

She’s also deep into rehearsals for Nunsense right now, with choreography being a major element of current rehearsals. She has a lot of experience as a dancer, but it’s been years since she’s done it seriously. Right now she’s realizing just which muscles you use in ballet that you don’t generally use for anything else. And tap. Don’t forget the tap muscles. I can’t wait to see the finished product. I remember back to when we were first dating, and she was performing some ballet in our college chapel, and enjoying watching her. Maybe it was the leotard more than the dance (hey, I was 19 years old!), but it’s a pleasant memory. I’m looking forward to seeing her dance again, even if she will be doing it in a habit.

Our friend Rick came by last night to play a little Rock Band. He and I have been building up our band White Guys With Nothing to Lose, and last night we took them to the top. We were inducted into the hall of playing, playing a big set that included Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden, Tom Sawyer by Rush, and Flirtin’ With Disaster by Molly Hatchet. You can’t go wrong with music from a band who had an album cover with a viking on a unicorn, fighting a kraken. THAT is true art.

You all need to come play Rock Band with me sometime.
